US CUSTOMS

Each resident, returning from Mexico, may bring back up to $400 worth of goods duty free every 30 days (subject to limitations on alcohol and tobacco products).  If your purchases are in excess of $400, the next $1000 worth is taxed at 10%.  Thus $1400 in goods would cost you $100 in duty.  After $1400 the tax rate varies depending on the products.

Texas residents, 21 years or older, may bring back one liter of alcohol, one liter of beer and one liter of wine once every 30 days. Residents of other states, 21 years or older, may bring back up to four liters of alcohol and one case of beer every 30 days. The State of Texas collects state tax on all liquor purchases. That little miniature bottle of Tequila will cost you 55 cents, a case of beer 94 cents, and that liter $1.10.

One carton of cigarette per person is allowed duty free. Additional cartons will be subject to duty and tax.  NO CUBAN CIGARS ALLOWED!
